  • Scientific Name: Schefflera arboricola 'Mini Moondrop'
  • Common Names: Mini Moondrop Umbrella Tree, Dwarf Schefflera
  • Native Region: Parent species native to Taiwan and Hainan, China.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun. It may scorch in harsh midday sun outdoors but becomes leggy in too much shade.

Watering Needs: Water when the top inch or two of soil has dried out. Avoid letting the soil stay soggy, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.

Soil Preference: Use a well-draining general-purpose potting mix. A blend amended with perlite or coarse sand helps improve drainage and prevents compaction.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4–6 weeks. Skip fertilization in fall and winter.

Hardiness Zone: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10–12. Indoors, it prefers warm temperatures and should be kept away from cold drafts or frost.

Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion may cause oral irritation, drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. Keep out of reach of pets.

Additional Care Tips: ‘Mini Moondrop’ is a compact cultivar known for its smaller, rounded variegated leaves. Prune occasionally to shape and encourage bushier growth. Wipe leaves periodically to remove dust. Rotate the plant regularly for even growth, and repot every couple of years if rootbound. Can be propagated from stem cuttings in warm conditions.
