  • Scientific Name: Rhipsalis ewaldiana
  • Common Names: Mistletoe Cactus, Ewald's Rhipsalis
  • Native Region: Native to Brazil, particularly in tropical and subtropical rainforests.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some morning or late afternoon direct sunlight but should be protected from intense midday sun.

Watering Needs: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry. Water less frequently during the winter months when growth slows down.

Soil Preference: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. A mix with added orchid bark or perlite will provide good aeration and prevent waterlogging.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Fertilize once every 4-6 weeks.

Hardiness Zone: Typically grown indoors or as a container plant in USDA zones 10-11. It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

Pet Safety: Non-toxic to pets, making them safe for homes with cats and dogs.

Additional Care Tips: Rhipsalis can be propagated easily from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous for a day before planting in moist, well-draining soil. Repot every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and provide more room for growth.
