  • Scientific Name: Hoya wayetii
  • Common Names: Wax Plant, Red Edge Hoya
  • Native Region: Philippines

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning sun, which may enhance leaf coloration, but prolonged exposure to harsh sun can scorch the leaves.

Watering Needs: Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water less frequently in winter. Avoid letting the plant sit in water, as it is sensitive to overwatering.

Soil Preference: Use a fast-draining, airy mix. A combination of orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of peat or coco coir works well to support the semi-epiphytic roots.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertilizer or one formulated for epiphytes. Do not fertilize during dormancy in fall and winter.

Hardiness Zone: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10–11. Indoors, keep in temperatures between 60–85°F and avoid drafts or cold exposure.

Pet Safety: Non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Additional Care Tips: Hoya wayetii features narrow, slightly curved leaves that can develop red margins under high light. It is a trailing or climbing species that benefits from a hanging basket or support. Provide high humidity to encourage flowering, and do not remove the flower peduncles, as blooms will return to the same spot. Let the roots become slightly pot-bound before repotting. Clean leaves occasionally to promote healthy growth.
