  • Scientific Name: Homalomena wallisii 'Camouflage'
  • Common Names: Camouflage Homalomena, Camouflage Queen, Camouflage Plant
  • Native Region: Native to tropical South America, particularly the Amazon region.

Light Requirements: Prefers medium to bright, indirect light. Its mottled camouflage-patterned leaves show best in consistent, filtered light. It tolerates lower light, but growth may slow and the leaf pattern may become less pronounced. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Watering Needs: Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top 1 inch to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly and let excess drain completely. Avoid letting the root ball dry out for extended periods, but do not leave the plant sitting in saturated soil.

Soil Preference: Use a loose, moisture-retentive aroid mix containing coco coir or peat, orchid bark, and perlite. The mix should hold enough moisture for steady growth while remaining airy around the roots.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer. Reduce feeding during fall and winter when growth slows, and avoid applying fertilizer to dry soil.

Hardiness Zone: Zones 10–12. Keep temperatures above 60°F and protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Pet Safety: Treat as toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like many aroids, it may contain irritating calcium oxalate crystals.

Additional Care Tips: Homalomena wallisii 'Camouflage' is a compact, tropical foliage plant grown for its broad, heart-shaped leaves with irregular green and silvery-green mottling. Bright filtered light helps preserve the contrast in its camouflage pattern, while warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity support fuller growth. Keep it away from heating and air-conditioning vents, which can dry the leaf edges. Remove yellowing leaves at the base and avoid letting water collect around the crown or remain in the pot's drainage tray.
