  • Scientific Name: Homalomena wallisii 'Selby'
  • Common Names: Homalomena Selby, Queen of Hearts
  • Native Region: Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly in regions like Malaysia and Borneo.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth may slow down and the foliage may become less vibrant. Avoid too much harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering Needs: Water moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season (spring and summer), but reduce watering in the winter when growth slows down.

Soil Preference: Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mix designed for tropical plants with good moisture retention is ideal, or a blend of peat moss, perlite, and pine bark works well.

Fertilizing: every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding or stop altogether during the winter months when growth is minimal.

Hardiness Zone: Suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 10-12 when grown outdoors. It prefers temperatures above 60°F (15°C) and is not frost-tolerant.

Pet Safety: Considered toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Additional Care Tips: Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to keep them free from dust. Prune to remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain plant health and appearance.
