  • Scientific Name: Ficus elastica 'Shivereana'
  • Common Names: Marble plant, Indian Rubber Plant, Rubber Tree Variegata
  • Native Region: Southeast Asia, specifically India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some gentle morning sun but should be protected from intense direct light, which can scorch the variegated leaves. Low light will reduce variegation and slow growth.

Watering Needs: Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Ensure any excess water drains freely.

Soil Preference: Use a well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of peat, perlite, and pine bark works well. Good drainage is essential to prevent soggy roots.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring through early fall) with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer. Pause feeding in winter.

Hardiness Zone: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 10–12. Indoors, maintain temperatures above 60°F and protect from drafts or cold air.

Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs. Contains a milky sap that can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and gastrointestinal upset if ingested.

Additional Care Tips: Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' is known for its creamy-green variegated leaves with speckles and blush tones. It prefers stable conditions with medium to high humidity. Clean the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to help with photosynthesis. Rotate the plant regularly to maintain even growth. Prune to shape or control size, and propagate from stem cuttings. Repot every 2–3 years or when rootbound. Avoid frequent repositioning, as Ficus species dislike sudden changes in environment.
