  • Scientific Name: Crassula 'Baby's Necklace'
  • Common Names: Baby’s Necklace Crassula, String of Buttons
  • Native Region: Hybrid cultivar; parent species are native to South Africa.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, direct sunlight and thrives in full sun conditions. It can tolerate some partial sun but will become more compact and colorful with strong light exposure.

Watering Needs: Water deeply but only when the soil is fully dry. This plant is drought-tolerant and highly sensitive to overwatering. Reduce frequency in the winter months or when kept in low-light conditions.

Soil Preference: Use a sharply draining cactus or succulent mix with additional pumice or coarse sand to prevent water retention and root rot.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month or every 6 weeks. No fertilization is needed during fall and winter dormancy.

Hardiness Zone: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 9–11. It should be protected from frost and brought indoors if temperatures fall below 25°F (-4°C).

Pet Safety: Mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal upset. Keep out of reach of curious pets.

Additional Care Tips: This plant forms thick, beaded stems resembling a string of stacked beads. It can grow upright or spill attractively over the edge of a pot. Prune to maintain shape and encourage branching. Propagate easily from stem cuttings—allow cut surfaces to callous before planting. Avoid frequent handling, as the stems are somewhat brittle.
