  • Scientific Name: Aglaonema 'Wishes'
  • Common Names: Wishes Chinese Evergreen
  • Native Region: Hybrid origin, cultivated for its ornamental value, with parent species native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and New Guinea.

Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but will thrive best in bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering Needs: Water when the top few inch of soil feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure proper drainage. Reduce watering frequency during the winter months when growth slows.

Soil Preference: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and standard potting soil works well to provide the necessary drainage and aeration.

How to Fertilize: Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer. Apply fertilizer at half-strength every 4-6 weeks. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.

Hardiness Zone: Typically grown indoors or as a container plant in zones 10-12. It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from temperatures below 60°F (16°C).

Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause irritation and swelling in the mouth and digestive tract. Keep it out of reach of pets and children.

Additional Care Tips: Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C); avoid cold drafts. Remove yellow or damaged leaves to encourage new growth. Repot every 1-2 years, using a pot one size larger to give the roots room to grow. Clean leaves regularly to remove dust and prevent pest infestations such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs.
